What’s this about? An album a day, every day? Yes that’s about it. Here are the “rules”:
- A complete album listened to, every day, including weekends.
- Compilation albums are not allowed – these albums were just the pre-MP3-player equivalent to dipping in and out of music on proper albums. I want to listen to the music in the context in which it was originally envisaged.
- I don’t have to own the album – sometimes I might make use of Spotify, &c.
- (In answer to my wife) No, I can’t miss out a day then listen to two albums the next.
- There is enough wonderful music out there so as not to have to listen to albums I know to be shite*.
How did this come about? Like a lot of other people (I’ve subsequently discovered after starting this) I came to a realisation that I would buy albums based on one or two tracks I knew I liked; or perhaps it was an album I felt I should own; and then I’d never get round to listening to the whole thing in its entirety. I have a 45 minute car journey to work each morning that is the ideal time to remedy this situation, so on 28 December 2011 I set myself this challenge.
Let’s see how far we get.
*No Genesis or their associates, then. Although Peter Gabriel has now served his time and his convictions are spent.
